Lufkin Police Capture Man Wanted for Friday Afternoon Shooting

Around 3 hours following a reported shooting in the Herty area of Lufkin, officers have captured and arrested Andre Montrel Woods, 21, of Lufkin, in the late Friday afternoon shooting of a Lufkin woman.

The shooting occurred around 5:15 p.m. as Woods and the woman argued in an area between 606 and 608 Chester St.

Woods fled into a wood line immediately following the shooting. He was taken into custody around 8:15 p.m. after an officer spotted him while searching an established perimeter. Woods complied with the officer’s commands to surrender.

The woman, whose name will not be released at this time, was taken by ambulance to CHI St. Luke’s Lufkin in unknown condition.

The incident remains under investigation.
