The tragic event that happened this past Sunday morning in the quiet community of Sutherland Springs, Texas has been wake up call for many that, unfortunately, no place is off limits when it comes to the evil actions of those intent on harming people.

With that in mind, numerous area pastors have called upon local law enforcement on tips and training to protect themselves and their congregation from danger.  As a result, the Lufkin Police Department will offer several sanctuary security training sessions FREE to the public this month.

Lufkin Police Sgt. Randy Brooks will discuss what tactics a civilian can use to survive an active shooter situation, following the ADD method - Avoid, Deny, Defend.

Training sessions are available:

  • 7:30 p.m. tonight at The Church by Jesus Christ (1701 Sayers St.)
  • 9 a.m. Nov. 13 at Pitser Garrison Convention Center - Texas Room  (601 N. 2nd St.)
  • 6:30 p.m. Nov. 16 at Pitser Garrison Convention Center - Texas Room  (601 N. 2nd St.)

Anyone is welcome to attend and again, there is no charge for the training. For more information, call 936-633-0321.
