Prayers Please for Colmesneil and Those Affected by Awful Crash
I knew the name sounded familiar.
When I was told this morning that a terrible crash in San Augustine County had taken the life of a teenager named Lacy Reynolds, I knew I recognized her name. That's somewhat odd for me because recalling people's names or their significance is not something at which I excel.
According to the Department of Public Safety report, there were actually two accidents that took place Tuesday evening at the intersection of FM 1277 and Highway 103. The preliminary crash investigation indicates that a Kia passenger car driven by Reynolds was traveling north on FM 1277 and drove into the path of a GMC SUV that was traveling east on Highway 103.
A passenger in the Kia, Kaitlyn Byrum,17, was transported to a Tyler hospital by medical helicopter for treatment. The driver of the GMC, Joe Worry, 37, from San Augustine was transported to CHI St. Luke’s Hospital in Lufkin for treatment.
As investigators were investigating the initial crash a Freightliner truck tractor semi-trailer was traveling east and took evasive action to the right to avoid the initial crash and drove off the roadway to the right and struck a parked Chevrolet pickup. No injuries were sustained as a result of the second crash.
It dawned on me that I recognized Lacy's name from the Senior Salutes that we did on KICKS back in May of 2020. Over 600 pictures and mini-biographies of area graduates were submitted to us last year for this feature. The one submitted for Lacy Reynolds showed her as the salutatorian for Colmesneil High School, District MVP for volleyball, and Homecoming Queen.
I remembered Lacy's entry so well because there was some confusion with the picture that was sent to be featured with her Senior Salute. The picture I posted was not of Lacy at all, and I'm still not sure where that picture came from. Someone from Lacy's family reached out to me to make me aware of the error. I cannot recall who that person was, but I remember that they were very understanding and nice. They sent me the correct photo to use (posted below).
No, I don't know Lacy Reynolds, nor her family. But, for some reason I was touched by the pleasantness of her family when making sure we posted the correct photo. So, to the family of Lacy Reynolds, I just wanted to say thank you for being nice, thank you for allowing KICKS 105 to showcase the accomplishments of Lacy, and please know that I will be praying that Jesus will bring you and your community comfort, peace, and love. Furthermore, to anyone reading this, I ask that you also pray for the things I just mentioned, plus, please pray for the healing of her friend, Kaitlyn. Pray for all those involved in the accidents and for those first responders who were at the scene caring for all those involved.
