Remainder of Southland Conference Basketball Tournament Canceled

Officials with the Southland Conference have canceled the remainder of the 2020 Southland Conference Basketball Tournament in Katy, Texas.  That announcement came as the teams from Southeastern Louisiana and Nicholls were on the court at Merrell Center preparing for their first round women's game.

Two men's games were held yesterday before the announcement came this morning.  Northwestern State and Lamar were to advance to quarterfinal games this evening.

This follows suit with many other conferences cancelling their post-season basketball tournaments.  As for now, the actual NCAA Tournament is still a go, however, only essential personnel and immediate family of players will be allowed to attend those games.  There is speculation that the NCAA may postpone or cancel the entire tournament.

In those conferences whose post-season tourneys are canceled, it is speculated that the regular season champions would advance to the NCAA tourney.  In the Southland Conference, that would the SFA Lumberjacks would get the men's bid and the Corpus Christi Islanders would be the women's bid.
