Several Area Teams Crack Into Top 25 State Basketball Rankings
Several Deep East Texas area basketball teams have made their first appearance in the TABC rankings. The Hudson Hornets, Diboll Lumberjacks, and Garrison Bulldogs have been playing some great basketball to start the season and they're starting to get their due recognition.
Diboll is 6-4 on the season, but all four of those losses have been close games against ranked teams (Hudson-2, Brock, Shelbyville). The Lumberjacks are ranked at #25 in Class 3A. Crockett (#5) and Coldspring (#7) are other area 3A teams that are in the top 25.
The Hudson Hornets (pictured above) have gotten off to one of their best starts in school history. They are undefeated through 15 games and they have claimed two tournament championships (Hudson and Glen Rose). Hudson is at #23 in the latest TABC Class 4A rankings.
Garrison's basketball team has been destroying opponents on their way to a 10-1 overall record. The Bulldogs average margin of victory has been well over 30 points per game. That dominance has earned Garrison a spot at #24 in the state's Class 2A rankings. Other Deep East Texas in that bracket include Shelbyville (#1), Grapeland (#2), Tenaha (#5), Dallardsville Big Sandy (#13), San Augustine (#21), and Gary (#23).
In Class A, the Pineywoods is represented by Oakwood (#5), Laneville (#8), Leggett (#12), and Neches (#14).
