Exaggeration?

I think not.  Ask any of the over 7,000 fans in attendance Saturday night.  Ask ESPN who ranked the finish as one of their top plays.

On a night when the community was asked to 'Cram the Coliseum', the SFA Ladyjacks and Lumberjacks delivered victories over the Northwestern State Demons.  The Ladyjacks prevailed with great defense in notching a double-digit win and keeping their hopes alive for catching Central Arkansas at the top of the Southland Conference standings.

The Lumberjacks won in much more heart-stopping fashion.  The 'Jacks came in riding a streak of 21 straight wins (2nd best in the nation) and 30 straight home wins (tied for tops in the nation).  Even though SFA came in with an undefeated conference mark and the Demons were some 6 games back, many knew that this would be a fight.  Northwestern State arguably has the most athletic and best shooting team in the Southland which explains why they were predicted to finish first in the preseason Southland polls.

The Demons showcased that talent in charging back from a 12 point deficit to take a lead late in the game.  However, 2 icy free throws by Desmond Haymon tied the game which set the stage for the last second heroics shown in the video below.

This is the second time that Jacob Parker has produced a buzzer beater.  Against Incarnate Word Parker rebounded a Haymon miss and scored with less than a second left to win that game.  We could call that the 'Parker Put Back'.  And now, with the steal and game ending dunk, I guess we'll call that the 'Parker Pick and Stuff'.

Call it what you want, it lifted a capacity crowd to their feet and into a frenzy.  The SFA basketball teams are on the road for a couple of games before they return for their final two home games of the season (March 6th and 8th).  Don't miss out.

Axe 'em, Jacks.
