Motorists in the area should be aware of two major areas of road construction that will be going on this week on Lufkin's East Loop and on Hwy 69 in Huntington

Road construction crews will be very busy over the next week around the Lufkin/Nacogdoches and Deep East Texas area. Here are some of construction areas to be wary of according to the Texas Department of Transportation.
The look and layout of Highway 59 between Lufkin and Redland will be changing over time. This evening, the Lufkin District of the Texas Department of Transportation is hosting an Open House to gather public comments regarding these plans as that area of Highway 59 will be upgraded to Interstate standards.
This past week, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) announced plans of a resurfacing project on Highway 59 north of Lufkin which will cause delays and temporary one lane closures.
UPDATED FOR TUESDAY (1/31) TxDOT is continuing a mill and inlay operation on Loop 287 through today and into tomorrow. The entrance ramp from Chestnut Street onto the loop southbound will be closed today and also the inside southbound lane from US 69 South to FM 58 on Looop 287.
Thursday morning, during our weekly conversation with Rhonda Oaks from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), we learned that a portion of the Loop in Lufkin will be closed beginning next Tuesday, January 24th.
