Texas Authorities Make Shocking $12 Million Discovery in Baby Wipes
Drug smugglers are getting even more creative in the way they try to get drugs into the U.S. That just means that U.S. Customs and Border Protection have to be even better at identifying possible drug smugglers.
Challenge Accepted!
Drug Busts
The men and women that guard our southern border are working overtime to protect the U.S. citizens from the dangers that come across the border on a daily basis. CBS News reports that just over the summer alone, authorities seized $390,000 worth of fentanyl from a car crossing into the U.S., $600,000 worth of cocaine hidden in the tires of a tractor supposedly transporting juice and over a million dollars worth of cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine hidden in statues.
The criminals are relentless and getting even more creative in their efforts to smuggle drugs into our country.
Cocaine Bust
Texas authorities made a huge drug bust in Laredo, Texas on Friday, August 26 after close to 2,000 packages of baby wipes were seized. According to a press release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, officers discovered around 1,500 pounds of suspected cocaine inside a truck carrying baby wipes.
Drug dogs were called in and would ultimately lead to the discovery of 1,935 packages of baby wipes filled with cocaine that officials estimated at a street value totaled at more than $11.8 million.
Director of field operations, Randy Howe, called the drug bust "record-setting" in a tweet on Monday saying it was the "largest cocaine bust in 20 years."
1,935 packages containing 1,532.65 pounds of alleged cocaine were seized.
CBP seized the narcotics. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents are investigating the seizure.
