TxDOT Reveals 3-Year Road Construction Project in Polk County

The first phase of a road construction project on Highway 190 east of Livingston is set to start in early January.  The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) - Lufkin District - recently sent out a media release alerting motorists and those with interests along this roadway.

A pre-construction meeting was held recently in the Livingston Area Office in Polk County signaling the beginning of this new construction project

Crews are expected to start work January 3 on US Highway 190 East, from the Livingston city limits to 4 miles west of Farm to Market Road 1276. Work will include intersection improvements with the addition of a right/left turn lane. Barricades will be set before the end of December warning motorists of the upcoming construction.

The $27.5 million construction project is scheduled to be completed in April 2025, weather permitting. As this work begins, motorists are urged to reduce speed and obey all traffic control in the area.

“This is a highly traveled section of US 190,” said Rhonda Oaks, public information officer for TxDOT. “This project will end just east of Greet Road, which is approximately 6.3 miles west of the main entrance to the Alabama-Coushatta Indian Reservation and Naskila Gaming. Motorists should prepare to slow down and allow for extra time through this work zone.”

Motorists can expect intermittent lane closures as work progresses. Be prepared to stop and stay alert for moving equipment and workers through this work zone. The construction project was approved by Texas Transportation Commissioners earlier this year and was designed to enhance safety.
