According to a release from the City of Lufkin, a water main break that occurred this afternoon is affecting several businesses and facilities around the northeast Loop 287.  Lufkin High School and several nearby businesses including Lufkin Ford, Southern Tractor, Jarvis Equipment, Chevron, and Love’s will be without water for several hours due to this water main break.

“An emergency crew is on the way,” Asst. City Manager Jason Arnold said. “Barring a setback, it shouldn’t be a tough repair.”

There is a home football game tonight and Lufkin ISD officials have been made aware of the issue. The school is attempting to bring in portable toilets to accommodate game attendees.

“Though we can’t promise we’ll have service restored by kickoff, we will repair the issue as quickly as possible,” Arnold said.

The Lufkin Panthers open district play tonight with a game at Abe Martin Stadium against the Magnolia West Mustangs.  The Mustangs are 2-0 on the year with wins against Brenham and Temple.  Meanwhile, the Lufkin Panthers are 1-1 after an opening season loss against Tyler Legacy, but then rebounding with a road win last week against the Nacogdoches Dragons.

At this time, there don’t appear to be any homes affected by the water main break as it appears only those areas in the immediate vicinity of the break are without water service.  No boil water notices have been issued as of this time.
