Forecasters are warning East Texas residents that Thursday through Friday morning could be a wintry mess, especially along the I-20 and I-30 corridors.

A reinforcing blast of cold air along with a storm system will be merging and bringing the possibility of snow, sleet, and/or freezing rain to much of the ArkLaTex.

Where Will The Dividing Line Be?

That's the important question. Dangerous accumulations of ice and snow will occur in east and northeast Texas, while other locations will be spared and receive some sleet and snow but mostly a lot of cold rain. Where will that line be located?

For now, it looks like I-20 corridor is a good place to start. A Winter Storm Watch is in place for Smith, Gregg, and Harrison Counties, this includes Tyler, Longview and Marshall. Up to two inches of snow could fall and up to a quarter-inch of ice could accumulate.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for all other Texas counties in the ArkLaTex. Two to six inches of snow (or more) could fall, and a devastating half-inch of ice could accumulate.

What About The Lufkin/Nacogdoches Area?

No winter watches, warnings, or advisories are posted for anywhere in Deep East Texas. Still, there is the possibility of some sleet/snow mixed in with some of the rainfall.

The overnight temperatures on Thursday are expected to stay at 32 degrees or warmer, so no major icy accumulations are expected at this time. Remember, that just a slight two-degree change in the temperature could change everything, so be prepared either way.

Flooding?

The National Weather Service is expecting up to three inches of rain to fall over the Pineywoods from Thursday afternoon through early Friday morning. Some of these downpours could lead to isolated areas of flooding.

That scenario could play out more along the immediate southeast Texas coastline where even more rain is predicted.
