This past Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, 30 East Texas youngsters between the ages of 3-7 tried their hand at mutton bustin' at the Nacogdoches Pro Rodeo and Steer Show.  And, as is usually the case, this event is one of the best crowd-pleasers of the night.

The Nacogdoches Pro Rodeo and Steer Show gets kicked off this Thursday and continues through Saturday night.  The rodeo starts at 7:30 nightly, but at 7 it's mutton bustin' with KICKS 105 and Baskins.

101 years ago today Girls Scouts was formed.  It was just a simple and small meeting of young girls organized by Daisy Gordon Low in Savannah, Georgia.  She believed that all girls should be given the opportunity to develop physically, mentally, and spiritually.

A Massachusetts father gives his children a reason, beyond the possibility of string cheese, to look forward to lunch. David Laferriere of Attleboro has been drawing on his kids' sandwich bags for the past five years, posting pics of each doodle to his flickr account.

St. Cyprian's School in Lufkin has become well known through the past years as one of the area's premiere private schools.  Their dyslexia education program is one of the best in the state.  And over the past few years, the craft of shooting a bow and arrow is also something their students excel in.

Warmer weather is on the way and whether it's the lake or your backyard pool, danger is right under your nose.

The Huntington High School band will soon be making their way towards the D/FW Metroplex for competition, and maybe take a well-deserved trip to Six Flags during their stay.  But, this doesn't come cheap, so the Band Boosters are helping out with a bingo night this Saturday (3/9).

A couple weeks ago I noticed a lot of posts on Facebook concerning some great performances and results by some groups of cheerleaders from the East Texas area.  I learned later that the groups belong to Extreme Cheer based in Lufkin.

Hard work and perseverance...and a lot of community support and fun came together for this past week's 64th Annual Angelina County Fair.  The auction, which was moved to Saturday this year, ended up raising over $318,000 for the youth of East Texas.

Wednesday was a day of competition in pies, cookies, breads, and rabbits at the Angelina County Youth Fair at the George H Henderson Jr Expo Center in Lufkin.  You can get the complete list of winners later in this blog.

Desserts, cheesecakes, rabbits, and broilers...just some of the competitions that took place on day one of the Angelina County Youth Fair.  In fact, the list of all the winners is located later in this blog, however, we do want to say a special thanks for the young men and women who joined us on the Merrell in the Morning show today.

The 64th annual Angelina County Fair gets underway today at the George H Henderson Jr Expo Center in Lufkin.  There are a few changes this year, beginning first with the name, we've transitioned to the 'county fair' instead of the 'youth fair', although, calling it the youth fair is still fine.
