📌55-Year-Old Passes Away From Injuries

📌Police Release Man's Identity on Thursday


The Lufkin Police Department has released the name of the person who passed away Wednesday night after being struck by a vehicle while trying to cross Timberland Drive. The auto-pedestrian accident took place around 9 p.m.

Lufkin Police have identified the man as 55-year-old Steven Penick. Officers confirmed his identification early Thursday morning. Penick's family has been contacted and notified of his passing.

According to a press release from the Lufkin Police Department, Penick, who was homeless, was jaywalking from the Paul Avenue side of Timberland Drive toward Whataburger when he was hit by a northbound Honda Accord. The driver of the Honda said she attempted to avoid Penick but was unable to do so.
Penick was taken by ambulance to a local hospital where he died a short time later.

At the time of the accident, Penick did not have any identification on him. Lufkin Police released a description of the man in an attempt to identify him. At the time of the accident, he was wearing a black shirt and blue jeans with black running shoes. He was also carrying a backpack with Disney’s Frozen characters on it that contained numerous vape pens.
