Fall Real? Rare Summer Cool Snap Expected For Much of East Texas
In East Texas, we know there are several stages of summer.
May - We can smell the lighter fluid as Mother Nature preheats.
June - Air conditioner compressors never stop running, unless you set your thermostat to 90.
July - The shells of turtles melt.
August - Catfish are already fried when you catch them
September - Texans throw objects at their TV when the Weather Channel shows pictures of the first snowfall in Montana.
Is A Cool Snap Really Coming to East Texas?
Take a look at the two maps below...
The top map shows the expected high temperatures compared to normal for July 23 -27. The map below indicates the same for July 25-31.
It looks like a good chunk of Texas should experience temperatures 7-12 degrees below normal for the remainder of the month. However...
Don't Get Your Hoodies Out
Let's not kid ourselves, you're still going to break a sweat when you head outside, but we will happily take temperatures in the 80s as opposed to triple-digit heat.
There may be a scattering of overnight lows in the 60s, but it won't be enough to send mosquitos into hibernation. Wait...do mosquitos hibernate? Well, wherever they go for the winter, they won't be going there.
It's Going to Be Rainy
Forecasters are also expecting above-normal rainfall for south and east Texas for much of the remainder of July.
We had a very wet spring, and Beryl made sure our July rainfall totals are above average. We don't need more rain, but, longtime Texans find it hard to complain whenever rain falls deep in the summer months.
What About the Rest of the Summer?
The Climate Prediction Center is forecasting above-average temperatures through September for Texas. Then again, that's like predicting George Strait will be wearing a cowboy hat at his next concert.
