Lufkin, Tyler, East Texas Brace For Massive Hail Storms on Sunday
An enormous severe weather outbreak is expected to impact over 75 million people today from Texas to Michigan.
Strong tornadoes, large to very large hail, and straight-line damaging winds are all in the mix from southern Michigan to central Texas through late Sunday night.
Biggest Severe Weather Threat for Texas
Although damaging winds and tornadoes are possible in eastern Texas, the biggest risk will be a widespread hail threat.
Anyone who lives in the area with hatched diagonal lines could experience severe storms that produce hailstones that are 2-3 inches in diameter. That's the size of golf ball to tennis ball-sized hail.
Needless to say, hail that size will cause massive damage to roofs and vehicles, plus be deadly for any living creature outdoors.
Storms in Texas will bring the biggest threat of hail-producing storms from Sunday afternoon through late Sunday night.
Tornado Threat
The Storm Prediction Center expects numerous tornadoes to develop today and tonight across the South and Midwest, but the largest threat of widespread twisters will be from eastern Arkansas to southern Indiana.
A few of Sunday's tornadoes could be strong (EF2+ damage).
Wind Threat
Damaging straight-line winds are also imminent across much of the U.S. on Sunday.
60+ mph straight-line wind gusts are possible throughout the color-shaded regions on the map above, with the greatest concentration in the purple area.
More Severe Storms Later This Week
It looks like we will have a severe weather threat again on Wednesday for roughly the same region that is threatened today.
Stay alert and keep up to date with weather warnings.
