Tuesday afternoon several storms made their way into Deep East Texas.  These cells brought mostly heavy rain and dangerous lightning and a few reports of hail.  It also brought some scattered power outages.  We live in Hudson and we were among the several hundred customers that had a power outage that lasted for a couple hours.

We ended up going to eat at Roma's on the West Loop in Lufkin.  Around 8:30 p.m., we noticed quite a few emergency vehicles with sirens blaring heading southbound on the Loop.  We then realized those vehicles were stopping just down the road.

On their Facebook Page, the Lufkin Fire Department reported that at 8:26 p.m.,  3 engine units, 1 ladder truck, and 1 chief officer were dispatched with 15 personnel to a fire at an occupancy of a strip center in the 1000 block of South John Reddit Drive.  We also saw an ambulance or two respond.

My son decided to walk to the scene to take some photos and gather some more details.  According to a witness, smoke was coming out of the Happy Nails and Spa location, which is located next door to Little Caesar's Pizza.  Some in the area had reported a car had driven into the business, but that was not the case.

According to the Lufkin Fire Department's Facebook post, the first engine arrived within 3 minutes reporting light smoke from the business. Upon entry the engine crew found and extinguished a small fire. No injuries were reported.
As of this posting, all occupancies are being checked for smoke and smoke is being evacuated from the premises. The Lufkin Fire Marshal will investigate to determine the origin of the fire.
