Flash Flood Watch Issued for Portions of the Pineywoods
The National Weather Service is expecting up to 6 inches of rain to fall across parts of the Brazos Valley, Ark-La-Tex, and the Pineywoods to close out 2020 and for that reason a couple of Flash Flood Watches have been issued.
Angelina, Nacogdoches, Cherokee, Rusk, and Panola Counties are included in one Flash Flood Watch will is active from 6 p.m. December 30 until midnight January 1. Polk, Trinity, and Houston Counties are included in a separate Flash Flood Watch will is active from 6 p.m. December 30 until 3 p.m. December 31. As of this posting, Shelby, Sabine, San Augustine, Tyler, Jasper, and Newton Counties are not included in any watches.
A strong cold front will move slowly across the area and then may become stationary for several hours before it finally blows through the area late Thursday. Strong to severe storms are possible in the area with the biggest threat coming Thursday afternoon and evening. Heavy downpours, gusty winds, hail, and an isolated tornado or two could occur. Southern Louisiana will have the highest likelihood of an outbreak of severe weather.
