Armed Standoff Has Shutdown Traffic On Interstate 45 in Houston

Traffic on Interstate 45 near Cypresswood in northwest Houston has been at a standstill since approximately 1:30 this afternoon due to an armed standoff.

According to reports on KPRC, a crash occurred on the southbound lanes. A woman stepped out of a vehicle, got a lawn chair out of the vehicle and then placed the lawn chair in the middle of the southbound lanes of Interstate 45.

She armed herself with a gun, and numerous law enforcement officers have been trying to negotiate with her over the past 3 hours. At one point, a reported family member tried talking with her, but that family member left after about 5-10 minutes of attempted conversation.

Needless to say, the backup of traffic has been terrible on both sides of Interstate 45.
