Car Collectors Love These New Premium Texas License Plates
20 years ago in Texas, you could tell what numbers were on license plates, even if you were blind. The license plates were stamped and embossed with the numbers and letters.
The raised lettering was introduced in the 1930s. They were made that way to prevent people from counterfeiting the plates. In 2009 Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) stopped the embossing of the plates and started digitally printing them to save on costs.
Though most of us hardly noticed the difference, car collectors were disappointed over the decision. They couldn't buy historically accurate embossed Texas plates for their classics.
