Justin Moore's "Why We Drink" is a no-nonsense drinking song that was inspired by his mother doing what moms do best. Charlene Moore was momming the "The Ones That Didn't Make It Back Home" hitmaker one evening, so he turned it around on her in a song from his new Late Nights and Longnecks album.

The traditional country boozer theorizes that there is no bad reason to drink a cold beer or something even harder. "'Cause our team lost / 'Cause our team won / 'Cause "Sweet Home Alabama" just came on / 'Cause we're lookin' for a reason to raise one / Yeah, that's why we drink," Moore sings during "That's Why We Drink."

Speaking to Taste of Country Nights, he shared how he and his wife and kids live about 500 yards from his parents on the property he grew up on, but on occasion they'll hire a babysitter and go out to eat, adults only.

“My dad don’t drink, so he drives, and the rest of us do," Moore begins, recalling a night from several years ago. "And so I ordered a drink and then I ordered two, three, four more or whatever. And my mom goes — mind you, she’s drinking a margarita at the time — she goes, ‘Why do you drink so much?’"

"I said, ‘I ain’t really ever found a reason not to.’”

From there he teamed with Casey Beathard, David Lee Murphy and Jeremy Stover to find a bunch of good reasons to drink. "'Cause the sun's up / 'Cause it's sundown / 'Cause my wound up needs a little unwound / 'Cause we've been workin' all day but we're done now / Yeah, that's why we drink," he sings.

“In a weird way this is a drinking song inspired by my mother, but I felt as though I needed to elaborate, instead of just the headline, ‘Justin Moore Writes a Drinking Song About His Mom,'" he reflects.

Of course, we would never do that.

Here Are the Lyrics to Justin Moore's "Why We Drink":

Cause it's Friday / 'Cause it's Monday / 'Cause it's a charcoal burnin' Sunday / 'Cause we ain't gonna get to one day / That's why we drink.

'Cause the sun's up / 'Cause it's sundown / 'Cause my wound up needs a little unwound / 'Cause we've been workin' all day but we're done now / Yeah, that's why we drink.

Chorus:
'Cause they're ice cold / 'Cause it's hot out / 'Cause we're Jon boat sittin' with a line out / 'Cause we're a little messed up, but it's cheaper than a danged old shrink / 'Cause we're grown up / 'Cause we're still kids / 'Cause we love doin' things 'cause our daddies did / 'Cause it's alcohol abuse if you pour one down the sink / Yeah, that's why we drink.

'Cause our team lost / 'Cause our team won / 'Cause "Sweet Home Alabama" just came on / 'Cause we're lookin' for a reason to raise one / Yeah, that's why we drink.

Repeat Chorus

To good friends, good times, you and me / To the red, white and blue boys and girls overseas.

Repeat Chorus
