The area around the old post office in Lufkin, H-E-B, and Timberland Drive is a highly traveled area, so here's a heads up that some road work around that location scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday (June 6-7) could cause some traffic issues and delays.

The City of Lufkin is advising motorists and businesses in that area that the Lufkin Street Department will be resurfacing a portion of East Lufkin Avenue between Chestnut Street and Timberland Drive (Next to H-E-B) beginning on Tuesday, June 6.

This section of Lufkin Avenue (marked in yellow) will be closed to thru traffic. That means if you are needing to get some groceries at H-E-B, your best bet will be to access the parking lot from the Timberland Drive entrance across from Walgreens.I'm not sure if the intersection between Frank Street, North Chestnut, and E. Lufkin will be open or not.

If the road construction stops before North Chesnut, you may have access to that road as well as to that H-E-B access point. Still, given the congestion that will probably occur at that quirky intersection, the Timberland Drive entrance to H-E-B will still be your best option.

The road resurfacing on E. Lufkin is expected to take no more than two days, weather permitting. Hopefully, by the time Thursday, June 8 rolls around, you'll have a new, smooth blacktop to travel on between Timberland Drive and Frank Street.

As with any construction zone, please slow down to a safe speed and observe all traffic and warning signs.
