Man Breaks into Lufkin Restaurant and Steals Fortune Cookies
The food at Hunan Chinese Restaurant on North Timberland Drive in Lufkin is delicious. Their food is so good, in fact, folks are breaking down the door just to get a taste. Well, in this case, it's just one person; and the food that was taken -- several fortune cookies.
Lufkin Police are reporting that on Monday morning (11/1) around 3 am, officers responded to a burglary in progress via an automatic alarm call from Hunan Chinese Restaurant. After arriving to the business, law enforcement saw a man walking away from a back door of the eatery.
Officers apprehended the man without incident and placed him into custody. The man is identified at Franklin Kessinger, 20, of Lufkin. According to the Lufkin Police report, officers found several stolen items from the restaurant in his hoodie pocket. Those items included the restaurant's cell phone, $13.72, and six fortune cookies. Maybe he was trying to find some good lottery numbers. Police also report that Kessinger was in possession of 1.4 grams of methamphetamine.
Kessinger was arrested and charged with burglary of a building, as well as possession of a controlled substance.
In other events, Lufkin Police report that Kenyata Brooks, 21, was arrested for public intoxication on Sunday evening after a woman reported that he was passed out on the stairs outside her apartment. This took place in the 1500 block of Copeland Street. Also, police report that in the 3000 block of South First Street, a catalytic converter was removed from a vehicle sometime between 6:45 pm Saturday, October 30 and 8:45 am Sunday, October 31.
