Severe Weather Threat Looms for Memorial Day in East Texas
Memorial Day across East Texas could be on the stormy side. There is a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms on Monday, some of those could be severe.
What To Expect in East Texas For the Holiday Weekend
It's a given that it's going to be hot and humid. Memorial Day Weekend is usually considered the start of the summer season, and Mother Nature won't disappoint in 2025. However, a cold front is expected to hover around the Red River region, bringing instability to portions of Texas, including the Pineywoods.

Just a slight chance of showers will be in our forecast for Saturday and Sunday, but that chance will rise to 50/50 by Monday afternoon. That probability of rain will continue until Tuesday afternoon, when the chance jumps to 70%.
In fact, the rain chances will stay around 50% for much of the upcoming week. Parts of Deep East Texas could receive over 2 inches of rain during that period, with larger amounts toward Tyler and Longview.
What About The Severe Weather Threat?
Currently, Lufkin and Nacogdoches are near the southeastern border of the 'slight' chance of severe weather on Monday. Large hail and damaging straight-line winds appear to be the biggest threat, however, I wouldn't be surprised to see a small tornado threat thrown into the mix.
I also wouldn't be surprised to see the Storm Prediction Center extend a marginal to slight severe weather threat for portions of East Texas for Tuesday.
For now, go ahead with your outdoor plans for Memorial Day. There is a 50% chance of rain/storms, but also a 50% chance you won't be affected. Just have a plan B ready to go.
