Rare PDS Tornado Watch Issued for Parts of East Texas, Louisiana
The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma has issued a rarely used Particularly Dangerous Situation Tornado Watch for portions of East Texas and much of Louisiana.
The Particularly Dangerous Situation (PDS) wording is used in rare situations when long-lived, strong and violent tornadoes are possible.
PDS Tornado Watch Details
Primary threats include numerous tornadoes expected with a few intense tornadoes likely (EF3+). Widespread damaging winds and scattered significant gusts to 80
mph likely. Scattered large hail and isolated very large hail events to 2 inches in diameter possible
Numerous severe/supercell thunderstorms are expected to intensify through the afternoon over east Texas and western Louisiana, spreading rapidly northeastward across the watch through early evening. Parameters are becoming increasingly favorable for tornadoes, including strong tornadoes, and widespread damaging winds
through the watch period.
This tornado watch is in effect until 9 p.m., although included counties in the westernmost portions of the watch area will likely have the watch discontinued before nightfall.
Deep East Texas counties in the tornado watch include Angelina, Nacogdoches, Shelby, San Augustine, Sabine, and Tyler. The tornado watch area is approximately along and 85 statute miles north and south of a line from 55 miles northwest of Port Arthur, Texas
to 50 miles northeast of Natchez, Mississippi.
