A pair of Severe Thunderstorm Watches are now in effect across Deep East Texas.

The first watch was issued just before 3 this afternoon and continues until 9 tonight. Angelina, Nacogdoches, Rusk, Cherokee, Trinity, and Houston Counties are among those under the watch.

The second Severe Thunderstorm Watch was issued just after 5:30 and is in effect until 10 p.m. This watch advances the possibility of severe storms further towards the east. Counties under this watch include Sabine, San Augustine, Shelby, and Panola Counties.

Counties to the south of this area which includes Polk, Tyler, Jasper and Newton do not currently have a severe weather watch.

Anyone who lives in the counties until the severe thunderstorm watches may experience heavy downpours, damaging straight-line winds gusting to 70 mph, and pea-sized to ping pong ball-sized hail. A rogue tornado is possible, as well.
