The Lufkin ISD Board of Trustees met Tuesday at noon to appoint Hall Henderson to fill the vacant position of Dr. Keven Ellis who was elected to serve District 9 on the State Board of Education in November.

Lufkin ISD has selected participants for the first year of the Aspiring Leaders Academy. The Lufkin ISD Aspiring Leaders Academy is a content-focused, professional development program for teachers and instructional coaches to develop knowledge and skills to grow professionally as leaders on their campuses and in the district.

According to a release from the Lufkin Independent School District, information has been received by the district suggesting that an inappropriate relationship may have existed between an educator in the District and a former student.

Lufkin ISD is going paperless for registration for the 2016-2017 school year. Parents no longer need to fill out paper packets to register their child.

The Lufkin Independent School District has received written confirmation from the University Interscholastic League that the District’s submission of student enrollment figures in October 2013 was in compliance with UIL rules and policies governing the reclassification and alignment process.

The Administration at Lufkin ISD is pleased to announce the hiring of Mr. George Little as the Director of the Lufkin Panther Band. Mr. Little will be replacing Mr. Scott Williams who has been the director for the past 11 years.

According to a press release from the Lufkin Independent School District, a recently passed state House Bill will lead to a few more minutes of school for elementary and primary students.

According to an overnight release by the Lufkin Police Department, their dispatchers took several dozen 30 calls regarding a "mass shooting threat" at Lufkin ISD today. Angelina County Sheriff's Office dispatchers have also received these calls.

An historic year for the Lufkin High School Marching Band continues. On November 1st, the band earned the state championship at the National Military Marching Band Association's State Marching Contest, and now it's off to New Orleans in January.

Congratulations are in order for five students from Lufkin High School who have earned the honor of the National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP), known for identifying academically outstanding Hispanic/Latino high school students.

This information was received from Lufkin ISD at 2:30 this afternoon: Lufkin ISD bus number 43 was involved in a minor wreck south 69 by Kids Konnection Daycare when a vehicle rear ended the bus. There are no injuries reported.
