As predicted, severe storms cut a swath across east Texas this morning. Most of the downpours and straight-line winds didn't last for more than an hour, but they packed a punch.

There were numerous reports of wind damage in the Pineywoods, and power outages were widespread across Deep East Texas. As of this posting (8 p.m.), thousands of customers in the Lufkin/Nacogdoches area remain without power.

The good news is that the storms moved out of the area by noon on Tuesday. The bad news is that winds gusting to 30+ mph remain in the forecast through Wednesday afternoon. East Texas is under a wind advisory until Wednesday evening at 6.

According to the Wunderground.com reporting stations, there were numerous reports of winds gusting to at least tropical storm strength across the Pineywoods. The strongest gust I could find was reported at the Angelina County Airport with a reading of 59 mph when the storms blew through.

Minor to moderate damage was widespread. Alto Schools and Lufkin High School both reported significant damage on their campuses, but I couldn't find an exact reading of the wind speeds at their locations.
