Numerous individuals, groups, businesses, and agencies in the area have stepped up to offer various type of assistance to those affected by the floodwaters and damage associated with Harvey.  Representatives with the Lufkin Police Department have compiled details on how to best support some of these efforts.

If you're looking to volunteer or donate in the Harvey relief/rescue effort, join the Angelina County Hurricane Harvey Volunteers Facebook groupThey have groups meeting daily in the Academy parking lot around 8:30 a.m. to head down with boats and supplies. To ensure the safety of all volunteers, they are coordinating with law enforcement in the impacted counties. Many volunteers are relying on the Zello Walkie Talkie app for radio traffic.

We spoke with the creator of the Facebook group and she said there is a major need for monetary donations for gas and also rescue equipment like life jackets and rope as many local retailers are sold out of these items already. A donation page has been established by the Angelina County Hurricane Harvey Volunteers.

You can also register to assist with rescues and see IMMEDIATE RESCUE NEEDS.

Contact Wendy's Misfits Animal Rescue if you wish to foster a pet displaced by the storm or assist in rescuing animals from flood waters.

The Red Cross is also at the front lines and a trusted name in helping the victims.
