An astrological phenomenon that most never get to see in their lifetime. A total solar eclipse will be cutting a swath through the heart of Texas on the afternoon of April 8.

The northern portions of east Texas will be in this path. Cities such as Athens, Gilmer, Sulphur Springs, Texarkana, and Tyler (but not Longview) will see the sun 100% obscured.

Close, But Not Quite for Deep East Texas

Anyone in Lufkin or Nacogdoches will need to travel about an hour and a half to reach the area of totality. A trip to Tyler or Frankston will get you there.

Actually, you'll need to go to the western part of Frankston, the eastern part will get 99.99% obscurity. The sun will be 100% obscured for all of Tyler, but 99.97% obscured in neighboring Whitehouse.
