Lufkin Animal Shelter to Offer Free Vaccines for Dogs and Cats

Kurth Memorial Animal Services is offering an outstanding opportunity to keep your beloved cats and dogs safe from deadly viruses.

A free vaccine clinic will take place at the Kurth Memorial Animal Shelter on Friday, May 17, from 12-5 p.m. The shelter is located at 1901 Hill Street in Lufkin. This event aims to provide essential vaccinations for pets, ensuring their well-being and preventing the spread of common diseases.

Thanks to the generous donation from Petco Love, Kurth Memorial Animal Services will offer 600 canine DAPPV and 400 feline 1-HCP vaccines at no cost to pet owners.

The DAPPV is commonly called the “distemper shot,” this combination vaccine protects against five diseases: canine distemper, adenovirus, hepatitis, parainfluenza, and parvovirus.

The 1-HCP vaccine provides triple virus protection against Feline Rhinotracheitis Virus, Feline Calicivirus, and Feline Panleukopenia Virus.

Animal Services Manager Morgan Williams expressed gratitude for the donation and emphasized the importance of these vaccinations in safeguarding the health of pets within the community.

"Petco’s goal in partnering with us is to ensure that every pet has access to essential vaccinations, regardless of their owners' financial circumstances," Williams said.

The clinic is part of an ongoing initiative by Kurth Memorial Animal Services to promote responsible pet ownership and protect the welfare of animals in the community.

"We intend to hold vaccine clinics once a month until the vaccines are depleted," Williams added.
