Two Lufkin High Seniors Given Outstanding Dual Language Awards
The Two-Way Dual Language Magnet program has been a part of the Lufkin Independent School District (ISD) curriculum for more than 30 years, highlighting the importance and opportunities this program provides for its students.
This program unites emergent bilingual students and non-emergent bilingual students in one classroom, making them both second-language learners with the goal of becoming proficient in English and Spanish across all areas of language - listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
Each year, the Dual Language program honors two seniors who have excelled in their second language and academics. These students receive the Outstanding Dual Language Student Award and a scholarship for their achievements.
The Dual Language program has partnered for many years with the Communities Cinco de Mayo organization to award scholarships to these outstanding seniors. Communities Cinco de Mayo has awarded more than $850,000 in scholarships to students in our East Texas community.
This year's award recipients were Rosa Torres and Cooper Knight. These two Lufkin High School seniors were presented with their plaques and scholarships at a recent meeting.
