Get Ready for Pickleball! Big Tournament Coming to Nacogdoches

The answer is pickleball. This sport combines elements of tennis, ping pong, and badminton on a 20x44 court. The video below provides a tutorial on the sport.
Pickleball has become so wildly popular because it's a sport for all ages and most importantly, it leads to great fun and camaraderie. There's even talk that the sport may soon become an Olympic event.
Pickleball has also become very popular in Deep East Texas which has led to the area's first-ever tournament.
Pine Top Pickleball Tournament
This event is coming to Nacogdoches in early October. The tournament will take place at Maroney Park right behind Nacogdoches High School on October 7th and 8th. Registration ends September 30.
There will be Men’s doubles, Women's doubles, and mixed doubles available. Men's doubles check-in time will be at 8:00 a.m. and the start time will be at 9:00 a.m. on the 7th, while the women's doubles side will check in at 11:00 a.m. and start at 12:00 p.m. on the 7th.
The next day the mixed doubles side will check in at 12:00 pm and start at 1:00 pm. You can play in up to 2 events (one gender-specific event and the mixed event) for $35 for your first event and just an extra $10 for your second event.
The minimum age to participate is 8 years old and all skill levels are welcome. Gold, silver, and bronze medals are to be awarded per category. Depending on the number of participants, a round-robin or double-round-robin format will be used. Matches will be comprised of two out of three games to 11, win by 2.
Winners will be determined by the total number of matches won. In case of a tie, bracket play will be used to determine the medal playoff. Bracket play will be assigned based on the total points earned from the round-robin.

The tournament benefits the Christian Women’s and Men's Job Corps of Nacogdoches. This organization empowers its clients to build a foundation for successful employment and helps them pursue their life goals. Donations are used to purchase curriculum and classroom supplies, fund scholarships, provide transportation and enable classroom activities.
