This Week’s Forecast for East Texas…Lots and Lots of Rain
Less than two weeks ago, the remnants of Hurricane Beryl dropped around 4-6 inches across much of East Texas. Some isolated areas received closer to 10 inches of rain.
Ready for Round Two?
Well, that statement is a bit of an exaggeration.
We are not in danger of a tropical system moving over us, in fact, none of the showers and storms are expected to be severe. It's just going to be day after day of healthy rain chances from Monday through at least Friday.
Most computer models show the Lufkin/Nacogdoches area getting an overall accumulation of 4-5 inches of rain. That rivals what we got from Beryl, but remember that the remnants of Beryl were over and done in less than 36 hours. All the rain we'll be getting next week should happen over a period of more than double that. So, hopefully, flash flooding won't be an issue.
The Timing of the Rain
There is a slight chance of a few pop-up showers on Sunday, but the best rain chances will start on Monday, especially during the afternoon.
The chances of rain will stay about 40% from Monday through Thursday, but rise to near 90% during the afternoons. Forecasters are predicting the heaviest rainfall amounts could happen Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning.
As I mentioned previously, most models are showing about 4-6 inches total falling across the area, however, one model I found shows over a foot of rain falling in Polk County. I wouldn't bet the house on that weather model.
