We'd like to believe our quaint little East Texas towns are some of the safest places in the state. However, I'm sure you've heard the saying 'crime has no zip code'. That's all very true as a study conducted by Safewise has ranked the top 20 most dangerous cities in Texas - with three East Texas cities making the list.

The study used crime data and average income levels provided by U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation's Unified Crime Reporting Program. Safewise was able to gather how many instances of reported violent crimes ( which include aggravated assault, murder, rape, and robbery) there were per one thousand residents.

Henderson, TX ranked #20 with a median income of $40,975, violent crime per 1,000: 7
and property crime per 1,000: 37.

Paris, TX ranked #11 with a median income of $40,283, violent crime per 1,000: 9
and property crime per 1,000: 34.

Texarkana, TX ranked #1 (!!!) with a median income of $38,810, violent crime per 1,000: 13 and property crime per 1,000: 50.

Dallas ranked on the list at #13 , along with Houston ranked at #4.

Safewise also conducted a study of the safest cities in Texas. White Oak (shout out to y'all!) ranked #41 of the Top 50 Safest Cities in Texas!
