The good news is that no tornado warnings have been issued in the past hour and a half, however, severe storms with up to golf ball sized hail and winds gusting to 60mph still remain rather common across parts of East Texas.

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect until 9:15 for Cherokee County. Severe storms can be expected in Rusk and Alto within the next hour. A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for Polk, Trinity, and Houston counties. A tornado watch remains in effect for Angelina, Nacogdoches, and many surrounding counties until 10pm.

This is a picture from the Texas Storm Chasers Facebook page which shows a tornado that touched down between Cleburne and Joshua close to 12:30 this afternoon.

Tornado warnings have been posted throughout several counties in and near the Metroplex and the situation as of 1:30 remains quite active and dangerous.

Severe Weather Moving Across East Texas

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning until 1:30 for Polk, San Jacinto, Montgomery, and Liberty counties. Anywhere from 1-5 inches of rain has fallen in the warned area and more heavy downfalls could happen in the next couple of hours.

Texas Department of Transportation has reported some water on FM 1988 and FM 62 in Polk County, but no road closures at this time. Some water has been reported on Highway 59 in Shepherd, but no detours have been set.

A Flash Flood watch continues for East Texas until tonight.

We definitely need the rain here in the Lufkin/Nacogdoches area, but it looks like we could get an extra punch with today's expected rainfall.

A strong cold front should be pushing through the Pineywoods later this afternoon bringing with it the possibility of heavy rain (yay!) and severe storms (dang!). As of 9am, no watches nor warnings have been issued for the area.

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Lufkin, Nacogdoches, and surrounding counties until 3 this afternoon.

As of 9:30 this morning, a line of strong to severe storms continues from Shreveport to Henderson to Alto and then back towards Crockett. Quarter-sized hail and winds of up to 60mph have been reported in some of these storms.
